At our last meeting, Barbara P suggested that we pick a night for our entire club to volunteer together for the Journey to the North Pole train — and we’ve chosen Thursday, December 4th! There’s only one show that evening, so the time commitment is just a few hours, and it’s sure to be a fun, festive night.
We’ll be helping the Believe in Books Literacy Foundation, a local nonprofit that promotes early literacy, imagination, and healthy development in children through creative programs like Outreach Reading, Books from Birth, and the Book Mobile. Since 1995, their efforts have provided over $2.5 million in scholarships, grants, and book distributions across New Hampshire and Western Maine. Their biggest fundraiser — the Journey to the North Pole™ — makes all of this possible.
There are two volunteer roles available — both guaranteed to get you into the holiday spirit:
Chef – Thursday, 12/04/2025, 3:40–6:30 PM
Meet at the train station in North Conway. You’ll greet guests, assist with seating, spread holiday cheer, and hand out candy, bells, coloring books, and letters to Santa. There’s some downtime, so feel free to bring something to pass the time.

Elf – Thursday, 12/04/2025, 4:15–6:30 PM
Meet at Theater in the Wood in Intervale. You’ll greet and escort guests to Santa’s workshop, sing carols on stage, and help spread joy and laughter.

Spouses, friends, and family are all welcome to join in — This will promise to be an experience you wont soon forget. The more people we can gather that night, the more magical the experience is for the children. Imagine the incredible magical train ride, and then coming out to be greeted by LOTS and LOTS of Elves. It promises to be as magical for us members, spouses, and friends as it will be for the littles!!
If you can’t make that date, there are plenty of other opportunities to volunteer. I really encourage you to support this great organization — gather some family or friends (it’s wonderful for older grandchildren!) and pick an evening. I guarantee you’ll make lasting memories for yourself and for the kiddos on the train.
